A disease that is ravaging the country kills only people born in March.

The discovery devastates you. Your husband is born in March. Your twins are born in March.

It was one of the very last (desperate) things your research team checked…there was nothing genetic, no biological agents, no obvious method of contamination.

“Is the disease sentient? Are people born in March marked in some previously undetected way?” your thoughts bounce wildly.

Our first mission had been to try and discover how the damn disease was selecting its victims in the hope that we could then move to prevention and cure…

We can try to prevent people being born in March in the future you suppose, but for now roughly 1/12 of the world’s population is at risk, including Mark, Lisette and Emily.
